Trowback blog!
In 2015 we visited Greece and Croatia for our honeymoon. We spent 10 days in Aegean and Adriatic bliss and could not have been happier with our choice!
Going to Greece for our honeymoon had always been a big dream of mine (Christina!). When the time came to plan everything, I started looking into island hopping throughout the Mediterranean but ultimately felt like that would be MY trip, not ours.
So I started to research and talk to Eric about how to make this trip more...us. After reading several articles about Croatia, I then learned that one of Eric's favorite TV shows was filmed there #GOT. After mulling over it for a few weeks, we finally decided that Croatia was the spot for us. It was close to Greece so we could maximize our travels without spending too much time at the airport, and there was something for us both.
A few things to know before we dive in - we used a travel agent for this trip! Though most of our trips are self planned, I highly suggest using a travel agent for honeymoons or any trip where you just don’t want to have to worry about logistics. It was incredible, and I wouldn’t have planned anything differently! From accommodations, to tours - it was all amazing. Let me know if you need any recommendations!
Here was our rough itinerary:
Athens - 3 nights
Dubrovnik - 3 nights
Hvar - 2 nights
Split - 2 nights
We spent an average of 2-3 days in each spot, our shortest stays being Hvar and Split.
I wouldn’t change anything, other than maybe doing less. Eric and I hadn’t started working for ourselves yet, but if we could have extended the duration of our trip, we would have. I maybe would have saved Athens for another trip and just focused on Croatia - that way we could have had a little more time in each city. I could have easily tacked on another day in Hvar and at least another 2 days in Split!
I will forever be in love with the Dalmatian Coast, the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas. I feel so at home, happy and full of life in those places! If you have ever thought of making your way over there - do it! I don’t typically travel overseas to the same places more than once, but we will continue to go back to these places for the rest of time!
Now on to the city features...first up: Athens, Greece
